When buying a large purchase item, such as a car or a house, we ask questions and research everything to ensure we make the best decision possible.  So when it comes to our eternal destiny, why should we take whatever any leader says about it?  If the bible is our final authority, then that is where we should begin and end our research. ​​Just as in the Search the Scriptures Study Guide, we cannot take the words of any leader for face value. We must research the bible for ourselves. A preacher may quote a scripture in his sermon, but is that scripture taken out of context?  Is that the only scripture he's using? And then what other resource(s) is he using that may or may not correspond to the word of God? The Sayings of Preachers vs. The Sayings of the Scriptures teaches believers to "believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God..." (1 Jn. 4:1).
